What the numbers really tell us

Put the statistics side by side and a pattern appears. Businesses believe in video. Marketers report a return. Consumers say it influences what they buy and want more of it. There is very little disagreement left about whether video works.

The real question: if almost everyone agrees video works, why do so many businesses still post one video a month, or none at all?

The production bottleneck

In our work with coaches, consultants and service businesses, the reasons are almost always practical: filming takes time, the founder hates being on camera, editing is slow, and the one video that does get made is expected to do everything. The result is too few videos to learn what actually works.

Marketing success with video is a volume game. You need enough attempts to find the hooks, angles and offers your audience responds to, then you scale the winners.

The 3-stage video funnel

Instead of one “perfect” video, plan content for each stage of the buying journey:

A simple weekly video system

  1. Monday: pick one topic from real customer questions.
  2. Tuesday: write three different hooks for that topic.
  3. Wednesday: produce one core video and three short cut-downs.
  4. Thursday to Sunday: publish, then check which hook held attention longest.
  5. Next week: double down on the winning angle.

Hooks and scripts that work

Three simple hook formulas you can use immediately:

Then follow a simple structure: hook (3 seconds), problem (10 seconds), insight (20 seconds), call to action (5 seconds).

How AI changes video production

The same survey found that just over half of video marketers have already used AI to create or edit video. AI tools now help with scripting, editing, captioning, translation, AI avatars and even full AI-generated commercials. The practical effect is that the cost of each extra variation falls dramatically, which removes the volume bottleneck.

Used responsibly, with consent for any likeness, honest disclosure where platforms require it and a human approving every script, AI turns video from an occasional project into a weekly system. That is what our AI Video and AI Commercials studios are built to do.

Your 30-day action plan

A worked example

Illustrative example, not a client case study. A business coach currently posts one long video a month and wonders why nothing happens. Using the weekly system, she picks one recurring client question: “How do I raise my prices without losing clients?”

She writes three hooks: a mistake hook (“Most coaches raise prices the wrong way”), a result hook (“How to raise your prices without losing a single client”) and a question hook (“Why do your clients push back every time you raise prices?”). She records one ten-minute core video and cuts three 40-second shorts, one per hook.

After a week she sees which hook held attention longest. The following week she makes two more videos on the winning angle and turns the best one into a paid ad. Instead of guessing, she now has data, and every week the system gets smarter.

Choosing the right video formats

Match format to goal. Vertical short-form (9:16) is built for discovery on Reels, Shorts and TikTok. Square and 4:5 videos work well in feeds. Horizontal (16:9) remains the standard for YouTube, websites and sales pages. Plan the core video so it can be cropped for each format, and add captions by default, because a large share of social video is watched without sound.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be on camera?

It helps build trust, but it is not required for every video. Voiceovers, screen recordings, text-led videos and consented AI avatars are all valid formats.

How long should my videos be?

As long as they need to be and no longer. Short videos win attention; longer explainers and sales videos win trust and decisions.

Is AI-generated video allowed in ads?

Generally yes, but platforms have rules on synthetic content and may require disclosure labels. Always check the current policy of each platform.
